Getting Started and Introduction

At Level 1 - Beginner, you will learn a little about astronomical images and how to use them. You will then go on to looking at sets of images taken of areas of sky, and learning how to identify potential asteroids in them.

Summary of Level 1 - Beginner

  • Download Images from the Spaceguard website
  • Load images in to Astrometrica
  • Identify asteroids by "blinking" the images.

Before you go further with this Level we recommend you have the Astrometrica software installed on your computer. This will mean you don't need to go back and install it later. You can find information about downloading Astrometrica by clicking on the "Software - Astrometrica" link in the left-hand menu.

You should also read the section "Introduction to Near Earth Objects" if you wish to know more about the background to NEOs and their place in the Solar System.
