Marches Astronomy Group

The Marches Astronomy Group (MAG) is a group of people interested in all aspects of astronomy.  The group is based on the Welsh border and in the heart of  The Marches and is open to anyone who is interested in astronomy, or anyone who thinks they might be!

You can meet like minded people, share an interest with others, learn more about astronomy and the universe we live in.

The aim of the Marches Astronomy Group is to bring the wonder of space to anyone who wants to join in the greatest quest of mankind.  We believe that space is a place, not just a project; more to the point, we are a curious bunch – we want to find out about things.

We are keen to promote astronomy and raise public awareness of it, but members are encouraged to pursue their interest in astronomy in whatever way they most enjoy. That means that the membership includes a wide range of interests and expertise including those who enjoy observing visually, taking photographs (with and without telescopes), using CCDs or just simply reading astronomy books and magazines or watching the Sky at Night on television.

If you have the slightest interest in astronomy or space science we want to meet you. We are lucky to have dark skies and it’s always nice to meet other people who are also fascinated by its mystery

The group meets once a month at the Spaceguard Centre for observing, or for lectures by guest speakers. Lecture subjects vary from meeting to meeting, but meetings start at 7.30 and take place on the second Friday of every month.

Come along to meeting to find out more and make new friends and have a bit of fun.
